Topper caps are available in various sizes and are usually measured width (side to side) x length (front to back).

Consider the size of the area of hair loss/thinning. Measure side to side and front to back.

Variations

Manufacturers can allow for a 5-10% variance in density, weight, colour distribution and wave pattern between pieces, particularly when elements of the piece have been hand made/hand tied during production. This means there can be some difference between the same style and colour which have been produced at different times or in different batches. 

Human hair will always appear warmer than the same colour in synthetic fibre. Colour blends in human hair will have less contrast than the same colour in synthetic fibre.
